EDITOR'S
NOTE
In this book, I have made a few additions.
It is still basically the same as the original, but at points
it has been carefully worded more directly to today's audience.
I have added a new feature of numeral notation—the
sign for the euro. The euro is a recent creation, but
it is still rather important in today's world economy. I retained
all of the original shorthand plates, even though the wording of
them is somewhat archaic to the modern audience (Take, for instance,
the reference in paragraph 13 to
a dray, which is a small cart). Another feature one
might notice is the hyperlinking between documents in order to make
the online viewing of the book more facile. Other than those
revisions, the book is basically in its original form.
This online edition is meant primarily for online
viewing. It may be more satisfactory in terms of quality to
print from the PDF.
